History

McDonald Pro-Hunting is a second-generation hunting company and is owned and operated by Sandy and Tracey McDonald. The head office is based in Polokwane, a city in the northern part of South Africa which used to be known as Pietersburg.

Hunting has been a family business for the McDonalds for many years. Sandy's father, Alex McDonald was one of the pioneers of Professional Hunting in South Africa. He hunted Kenya, Botswana and South Africa extensively, from the mid 1950's until his retirement in the early 1980's. His wife, Helen was involved with running the public relations side of McDonald Pro Hunting until her passing in April 2008.

Sandy, having started hunting at a very young age and taught to be conservation conscious, followed in his father’s footsteps. He formed McDonald Pro-Hunting in 1991, and the company quickly grew into one of the largest and most reputable outfitter operations in South Africa. The company expanded across South Africa's borders and today also operates in Mozambique, Botswana and Tanzania.
