A Picture Tells More Than a Thousand Words

When I review two generations of work in the Conservation arena I see many hunters who have made significant contributions to the survival of wildlife and yet do not blow their own trumpets in public.

As hunters we need to continuously ask ourselves whether we simply utilize or whether we also attempt to make a real difference as conservationists. Does our sport benefit any species other than our own?

Hunters should not only focus on hunting. We have a much higher calling that those who portray themselves as so called conservationists, as conservation is the foundation of our existence. If our inputs into wildlife and nature are less than our outputs, we may become like certain corporates who sponsor conservation with little offerings, but tap the suffering recipient of their less generous support for good publicity.

Our entire being as hunters relies on the purist principles of conservation. Take only what you need in such a way that the resource will be there tomorrow and in years to come, in the same or better quality and quantity as today.

Does this mean we can hunt an area every year without damaging the population? Yes, we can. However, we have to contribute to the improvement of the animal population and numbers by ensuring that the habitats they require can sustain healthy and growing populations. But it remains our responsibility to do this, as the anti-hunting lobby won't.

We have had the best season of our time in the business, despite the world wide credit crunch. I attribute this to the fact that we provide a superior service to our clients without charging exorbitant prices. This year word of mouth and repeat clients made this possible, going to show that hunters are prepared to make significant contributions to conservation and wildlife even in the toughest economic times.

This great season is the result of a team of people working in harmony – from the tea boys in the morning to the skinners, trackers, PH's, office ladies and most of all our clients and agents.

Asante and God bless                       Sandy, Tracey & the family

If a picture is worth so many words, imagine what so many pictures are worth... as hunting memories.
